Steph Neary is a self-taught artist based in Pittsburgh, PA, she creates one-of-a-kind pieces using vintage and salvaged materials. Since settling in Pittsburgh in 2006, she’s developed a distinctive style that blurs the boundaries between art and craft with a nod to folklore, child’s play, underground comix, & heirloom-inspired designs with humor and surrealism. Her art focuses on capturing what’s real and raw, strange and tender, & perhaps reminiscent of relics from a forgotten world.

Born into a creative family, Steph credits much of her inspiration to her maternal grandmother, a RISD graduate and trained puppet troupe creator and a childhood immersed in her mother's costume and craft programs. These early experiences fueled her intuitive approach and lifelong passion for textile collage, found-object sculpture, zines, and whimsical storytelling. Since childhood her work has been driven by an ethos of inclusivity, hand-made authenticity & community activism all in celebration of craftwork.

Currently, she serves as the manager of VaultArt Studio, a progressive art space in Pittsburgh’s Garfield neighborhood which supports and promotes the inclusion of artists with disabilities in contemporary art.
